Check out our list of renewals and cancellations to see if your favorite show was a success… When Brett Goldstein, Jason Segel , and Bill Lawrence were asked how they got Harrison Ford to be on the show, Segel said that Goldstein originally wanted a “Harrison Ford type”; and he was going to audition people who looked like Ford. Segel told Goldstein that he had to at least bring it to Ford first, thinking he would immediately turn it down, but at least other people would hear that Harrison Ford was being brought on board, generating interest from other top actors. Eventually, Goldstein spoke to Ford and sold him on the role. Goldstein still doesn’t understand what he did to convince him, but he was still thrilled. Featured in WatchMojo: Top 10 Best TV Shows of 2023 (So Far) (2023). And the rest of the show is great. Jason Segel is perfectly cast for this script. He has the weird, idiotically confident energy needed for the role. And Jessica is perfect. Her humor is right up there with the dialogue. This is the new way to create situation dramas. No real lines, just engaging personalities with a touch of weirdness and family circumstances that are a little over the line from normal, but still relatable. Of course, Jimmy’s therapist-like behavior is completely absurd. You’d lose your license right away. Just impossible. But we allow metaphorical situations in drama. And in this script, we sense a strong intention in the decisions. We have to give the writers the benefit of the doubt and try to get the gist. To me, it’s easy and fun. Other reviewers, apparently, struggled.
